In the latest edition of US Weekly, we are introduced to Alyssa Milano’s new bundle of joy in the feature “Meet Baby Milo!”
Besides the normal labor, name and milestone questions, the actress was asked, “Since you’re a vegetarian, will Milo be one as well?” Milano replied, “I want him to have a normal childhood. We’ll feed him meat, and he can decide if he wants to be a vegetarian as well.”
What a shame. To imply that a child cannot have a normal childhood while practicing a healthy and compassionate lifestyle is upsetting.
As a mother of three vegan daughters, I can assure you that my girls are perfectly normal. Well that is unless “normal” must constitute increasing their chances of obesity and a wide array of diseases.
I always find it comical when parents are so concerned with dictating a healthy lifestyle for their children. As parents, we teach our children what religion to follow, what morals to abide by and what political agenda is correct. We tell them what clothes to wear, when to be in bed, and how to determine right and wrong. Why should we not also teach them that a humane lifestyle is the right lifestyle? I do.
So, please sound-off. Are you a vegan/vegetarian parent? How are you raising your kids? (Join the conversation on Facebook.)
