Last summer culinary shockwaves rippled throughout the vegan/vegetarian world when Denny’s announced the addition of Amy’s Kitchen Veggie Burgers to its menu options. Okay that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but nonetheless anytime a major eating establishment decides to offer a new plant-based selection, that doesn’t involve just simply slapping a piece of lettuce on a dry bun, it’s big news.
And now v egetarians and vegans living in the Chicago Land area have another reason to celebrate, Subway is now offering a Falafel Sandwich.
The sandwich isn’t ultra new—it appears to have been around last September—but we just recently discovered this gem and had to let the world know about it.
What exactly is the Falafel Sandwich? From pictures it seems pretty self-explanatory, pieces of falafel in a 6" sub or flatbread with a choice of veggies and apparently cucumber sauce—vegans might want to skip the cucumber sauce.
Reception has been positive on the Falafel Sandwich Facebook page, although only 99 people have joined since its creation last September.
One member posted on the wall “i was so delightfully surprised when i went to subway and ordered veggie delight and then saw the falafel ad. i had it on flat bread and it was so good. plz plz plz keep this on the menu ♥ ♥ ♥”
I mean she used hearts so the sandwich has to be good.
While another Facebook user expressed his desire for Subway to expand the test area for the Falafel Sandwich:
“omgz come to nj”
Let me add, “OMG please offer the Falafel Sandwich in the Akron, Ohio area.”
