Vegan Natalie Portman engaged and expecting first child

Vegan actress Natalie Portman has announced her engagement to choreographer and ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied. And not only are wedding bells in the couple’s future, lullabies are as well—they are expecting their first child in 2011.

The couple began dating after meeting on the set of Black Swan where Millepied acted as the film’s choreographer and Portman’s onscreen dance partner.

Natalie Portman, who has been a vegetarian since childhood, credits Jonathan Safran Foer's book "Eating Animals" for her decision to switch to a vegan lifestyle in 2009.

“The human cost of factory farming -- both the compromised welfare of slaughterhouse workers and, even more, the environmental effects of the mass production of animals -- is staggering,” Portman explained in an article for The Huffington Post. “Factory farming of animals will be one of the things we look back on as a relic of a less-evolved age.”

The Academy Award nominated actress is best known for her roles in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Professional, and Closer.
