'Confessions: Animal Hoarding' returns with new episodes in January

The television series that offered the first real insight into the world of those who live with the psychological phenomenon known as animal hoarding is back.

Confessions: Animal Hoarding will make its return to Animal Planet January 7 at 9 PM and 10 PM (ET/PT) with a special two part recap that will revisit previous episodes. The following week (January 14) the new 10 episode season kicks off at 10 PM (ET/PT).

According to Animal Planet this season will feature the following stories:

A man copes with the emotional stress of his dysfunctional family by owning more chihuahuas than he can care for, ultimately leading to several untimely deaths and a bizarre burial ritual.

A deckhand spends most of his inheritance hoarding cats and chooses to sleep aboard a boat rather than face the destruction they have caused at his home. With no family of his own, he seeks help from his fellow fishermen.

A single father of a two-year-old believes he is on a mission from God to protect pit bulls by gathering as many as possible, regardless of his ability to care for them and despite his family's pleas to stop.

Animal hoarding is a severe psychological problem (although it's not formally recognized as a distinct psychological disorder in the psychiatric diagnostic manual) that manifests through obtaining an unmanageable number of animals.

Unfortunately the illness is largely ignored unless a crime is committed.
