Sophia Bush promotes new Facebook game that tackles climate change

Sophia Bush, the beauty who portrays ‘Brook Davis’ on the CW’s hit show “One Tree Hill” and almost real-life vegan, is teaming up with DoSomething.org and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help launch a new Facebook game aimed at teens called “eMission.”

The 28-year-old actress filmed a public service announcement (PSA) promoting the eco-action game that will be featured on youth oriented channels such as Meez, Channel One and hulu.com.

“Teens are already on Facebook playing games, so why not play one that's going to change your life for the better?” said Bush. “Young people need to hear that they’re powerful and can be leaders in change. This is the idea behind eMission.”

The “unique” Facebook game entails a social mission intended to motivate young people to log off, get up off their bu...computer chairs and take action by increasing energy efficiency and fighting climate change offline.

eMission places players in a coastal setting where they build and maintain an online habitat featuring creatures, such as sea lions, pelicans and bald eagles, by completing ‘missions’ in the real world that reduce greenhouse gas emissions―such as powering down computers when not in use, planting a tree, and taking shorter showers. Although players are rewarded with points and new habitat features inside the game environment, the highest rewards are based on the actual carbon savings of a player’s real-world actions. To advance in the game, players must complete increasingly complex offline actions that offer higher carbon savings. A player’s offline actions must be verified by friends or by submitting photographic evidence.

And for potential participants if helping Mother Earth—and actually moving your body— isn’t enough incentive to join the fun, those who do decide to play the game can also enter for a chance to win one of five $2,000 scholarships.

Saving the planet and raking in some cash for college, does it get any better than that? That’s a rhetorical question by the way.
