Parrot detained for assisting Colombian drug cartel

File this under another screwed up thing people do to animals.

A parrot was taken into custody last week by Colombian police for allegedly aiding and abetting drug dealers. The parrot, named Lorenzo, had been trained to squawk a warning call to alert the criminals of approaching police.

When cops in Barranquilla, Colombia staged a raid on a known drug den they heard a high pitched voice saying, “Run, run, the cat is going to get you! Meow!” The cops came upon Lorenzo, who had apparently been doing a good job as most of the criminals had fled.

Police seized a cache of drugs, guns and a noisy parrot who squawked “meow” as he was being led away.

Lorenzo was taken into custody and is being sent to a facility where animals are held after they have been involved in criminal activities. Let’s hope that no cats were arrested for shoplifting recently.
