Home Properties Inc. opens new environmentally friendly apartments

Prospective renters in the Washington D.C. metro area who happen to have an affinity for green living take note. Real estate investment trust Home Properties Inc. announced the opening phase of its new eco-friendly apartment complex, The Courts at Huntington Station, in Alexandria, Va.

“The Courts” feature 202 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and are located just mere steps from the Huntington Metro Station that provides convenient access to the Nation’s Capital.

"What makes The Courts unique is that residents have the opportunity to reduce their individual carbon footprint by using several mass transit options located within close proximity of our community," stated Donald Hague, Senior Vice President of Development for Home Properties. "You literally can walk out your front door and onto the Metro platform."

The prime location is not the only attribute that makes the new apartment complex environmentally friendly. Due to Home Properties commitment to preserving surrounding land and existing neighborhoods, Fairfax County presented the company with the Land Conservation Award in April. The award was given for “promoting best practices in both erosion prevention and sedimentation control throughout the construction process.”

Amenities include Energy Star appliances, underground parking, recycling and noise-reducing windows. Residents into fitness will be quite pleased with the outdoor swimming pool, “state of the art” fitness center and yoga/Pilates/cycling studio.

Not surprisingly all of this convenience comes at a price. For example, a 1 bedroom/ 1 bath unit starts in the $1700’s while a 3 bedroom/3 bath will set you back $3300+ per month. But that’s probably chump change in DC right?

So far 82 apartments have already been leased but take heart, phase 2 will open in May of 2011.
