Twenty-five years ago, Eric Stoltz became a vegetarian as a show of rebellion against his family. The meatless diet was adopted “because I loved animals, and it pi**ed off my parents, which I loved,” the actor told Mother Nature Network.

Stoltz found that after going vegetarian not only did his health improve, he also began to notice that cruelty-free eating “is the greenest way to live.”

The 48 year-old stars as computer genius Daniel Graystone, creator of the Cylons, in the television series Caprica which is a prequel set 58 years before the events seen in Battlestar Galactica.

Stoltz’s co-star, Esai Morales is also a vegetarian. The show debuts on Jan. 22 at 10 p.m. on the SyFy channel.
