Skip meat for chances to win cash prizes

The North American Vegetarian Society gives omnivores a chance to win cash if they can give up meat for just one day. Non-vegetarians who pledge to abstain from meat, including fish and fowl, in October will be entered in a random drawing for cash prizes. They can take the "Vegetarian Pledge" for one day, one week, or for the entire month of October online.

The contest coincides with Vegetarian Awareness Month which concludes with World Vegan Day on November 1st.

I am already a vegetarian, what can I do? The North American Vegetarian Society suggests four ways to get your meat-eating friends on board:

  1. Let people know that October is Vegetarian Awareness Month and tell them why vegetarians everywhere are celebrating.
  2. If you haven’t already, explain why vegetarianism is important to you. Tell them about the benefits of meat-free diets.
  3. Tell them if they go meat free this October (no meat, fish or fowl) that they could win up to $1,000!
  4. Have people fill out the pledge cards and mail them to NAVS. To be entered in the contest, pledge cards must be postmarked no later than October 31.
