Vegan actress Alicia Silverstone named as campaign spokesperson

Farm Sanctuary has named actress and popular vegan Alicia Silverstone the spokesperson for their Compassionate Communities Campaign. Her goal is straight to the point: to help as many people as possible get active for animals.

"When people think about helping animals, they generally think about dogs and cats, but chickens, pigs, and other farm animals need our help even more," Silverstone said, whose best selling book "The Kind Diet" offers easy and delicious transitions into vegetarianism. "Vegetarian advocacy allows busy people like you and me to spare the lives of thousands of animals every year without a huge time commitment."

Compassionate Communities was founded by Farm Sanctuary to train animal advocates and grassroots groups in the most effective forms of advocacy, mainly promoting vegetarianism. For each person who eliminates or reduces the amount of meat they consume, dozens of farm animals will be spared, making vegetarian advocacy the most effective thing anyone can do to help the most animals in the least time.

Boston, MA Madeline is studying Communications and Public Advocacy at Northeastern University. Going vegan on a whim in 2011 changed her entire lifestyle for the better. Her course of study, health and career intentions now revolve around plant-based living. All it took was one question ‘Why would you care more about what goes on your body than what goes in it?’ When she’s not in classes she works at Teavana and keeps up her own recipe blog. The only thing that makes her happier than talking about food is traveling, but it’s a pretty close tie.
