The vegan celebrity list grows once again! The newest of celebs to join the vegan community is the one and only Michelle Pfeiffer. She attributes her change in diet to former President Bill Clinton and a book on heart disease.
"I was finishing up working on, I think it was 'Dark Shadows,'" she said in an interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight. "And I was watching CNN, and 'The Last Heart Attack' came on.” A documentary featuring former President Clinton and hosted by Gupta.
It was Clinton’s story that really inspired Pfeiffer,"OK, Bill Clinton loves food, so there must be something to [veganism] that's making him stick to it. And also, he's smart, so he's not going to do something unless he really thinks there's some science behind it."
It was after reading, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, that Pfeiffer made the decision to switch to a vegan diet.
"I just felt like...there was science behind it," she says. "And, you know, it was sort of irrefutable. ... I couldn't not listen to it. My father died from cancer, and the older you get, there's a lot of disease around you. And you see people struggling with chronic disease. You see people dying with terminal illnesses. And if in any way .... this is true, then you kind of have to listen to it."
It is wonderful to see so many new faces inspired by recent stories of health improvements as a result of a vegan diet. Sometimes it takes a hard hit home to understand the benefits (or detriments) of certain foods.
With the recent transition of so many celebs to veganism, I am seeing a future of less meat consumption, and better health. I applaud those with a voice that are so eager to make a genuine difference in this world.
