Vega offers a tasty and effective line of protein supplements for vegans who like to pump iron

One of the questions many vegans get when they first convert into the vegan lifestyle is “Where do you get your protein?” The common misconception about diet is that complete protein can only come from meat and dairy sources, not true!

I’ve been a vegan for almost a year now and I get plenty of protein, whether it’s from vegetables, beans, lentils, grains, etc there are many sources of vegan protein out there. However, for those vegans that are looking to pump some serious iron and gain muscle mass, there are vegan protein supplements that can be used. Over the past few months I have tried many, but I have to say one of my favorites has been Vega One Chocolate (or vanilla chai) Nutritional Shake.

Vega is a company that was started by Brendan Brazier, a world class endurance athlete and a long time advocate of the whole, plant based diet. Vega Nutritional shakes boast a variety of amazing health benefits with a solid 15 grams of protein. The sources of complete protein are pea protein, SaviSeed (sacha inchi) protein, hemp seed protein and sprouted whole grain brown rice protein. Each shake is packed with 6 grams of fiber, omega 3’s, antioxidants, probiotics, and the added bonus of greens. Vega One is also FREE of dairy, gluten, and soy and has no added sugar, artificial flavors colors or sweeteners.

One might be apprehensive to try a product that is plant based, due to taste and texture, but I can testify to the fact that Vega One’s flavors are all amazing and you will not feel like you’re drinking grass. I myself am a chocoholic, so the chocolate variety is my absolute favorite, the other flavors or original, vanilla chai, and berry. Vega One blends very well with water or your choice of dairy free milk. The consistency is smooth, it does not separate out (which I have experienced with some protein powders) and there is no after taste/ strange smell.

You can shake Vega One up with water and go on your way, or if you’re looking for a sweet and nutritional treat, I like to blend it up with half of a frozen banana, cinnamon, a couple of ice cubes, and maybe one or two dates if you like it extra sweet.

*For the raw vegans out there, I’m not sure if this product is raw but I know that Nativa Naturals makes a great, unsweetened raw hemp protein powder!
