Steakhouse proprietor pranks vegans

Cincinnati restaurant owner Jeff Ruby played a cruel joke on Ohio vegetarians.

On Sunday, Ruby announced plans to open an Italian vegan bistro, featuring high-end, organic cuisine. The eco-friendly restaurant plan included an on-site vegetable garden and natural heat springs for food preparation, according the press release posted on the company’s Facebook page.

“I don’t have a beef with beef. I love it. This is simply a way to tap onto a growing market with a food product that doesn’t require parents. We see it as a very natural next step in the progress of our company,” said Ruby in the statement.

But the owner of six steakhouses was just kidding. On Monday, he revealed that the plans were just an April Fool’s Day hoax.

While disappointed that there will be no fancy, vegan restaurant opening in the Cinnicinati area, there’s a positive to this prank.

Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse made a contribution to the owner’s scholarship foundation for each person who “liked” the status on Facebook or went to Ruby’s Twitter page (@TheRealJeffRuby).
