Chrissie Hynde closes vegan restaurant in Akron, Ohio

"I went back to Ohio, but my city was gone." The lyrics from Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders ring true this week, although it's her vegan restaurant that is now gone. Chrissie Hynde's Vegiterranean Restaurant is closing its doors after four years. The downturn in the economy has been cited as the reason for the closing.

In a statement posted on the restaurant's web page Hynde says, "This has been a labor of love for us over the past four years. We tried everything we could to keep the restaurant going but unfortunately due to the current economic climate this has been not possible. I'd like to thank everybody who helped me fulfill my dream. I discovered that vegan cuisine in Ohio has become more appreciated than I imagined."
