Instead of continuing to sell puppies, two Canadian pet stores have taken on the "Every Pet Deserves a Home Program." This program was created to help increase pet adoption, with the pet stores providing customers with information on pet adoption and photos of adoptable animals.
PJ's Pets and Pets Unlimited are the two stores that are partnering with SPCA's, Humane Societies, rescue groups, and shelters. Pets Unlimited stopped selling puppies earlier this year, and PJ's Pets will stop sales by September 1. PJ's Pets will be searching for homes for their breeding dogs and remaining puppies until October 1.
In an effort to promote the new program, store employees will hand out brochures, adoption applications, and photos of adoptable animals.
With 41 stores located throughout Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, this switch from selling puppies to promoting adoption will surely make a big difference in Canada.
If interested in participating in this wonderful program, adoption service agencies can fill out an application.
Yes, every pet does indeed deserve a home!
