TDIV Q&A: My boss teases me about being vegan, how should I handle the situation?

My boss teases me about being vegan. How should I handle the situation?

I’ve found the best way to handle “job teasing” about my vegan lifestyle is to ply the antagonizers with yummy food. I endured about two months of non-stop teasing from co-workers and my boss when I first became vegan and after alternately getting completely aggravated, ignoring them or just stalking off, I realized they had no idea what they were missing and their taunts were just based on ignorance. I use the word “ignorance” in an innocent way, too...they truly had no knowledge of what a vegan diet was.

SO, I provided them irrefutable evidence that a plant based diet was not only healthy, but tasty and the comments began to taper off. I left banana carob brownies, date/spelt muffins and bowls of hummus in the refrigerator at work. I taped signs of “Please Eat Me” on all of them and waited. It didn’t take long since I work with a bunch of constant snackers. One by one, they began stopping by my office telling me how delicious everything was and even asking for recipes! Now, I provide lunch for my boss at least once a week and he gladly pays me for doing it. He’s losing weight and incorporating more and more plant based items into his life and his wife and kids are following suit. Miraculous? Not so much. Just bring samples to work and watch the attitudes change.
