Injured pit bull halts NYC animal rights protest

A demonstration by the New York Animal Rights Alliance America was brought to a standstill on Sunday when a pit bull showed up dripping with blood.

The protest was to highlight the current system of mass animal euthanasia in New York shelters with participants dressed in red outside of the Brooklyn ACC, as were sympathizers around the country protesting outside their local shelters.

The proceedings were halted when a female pit bull was being brought into the shelter. She was dripping blood, and had tire tracks across her hindquarters. Blood was also seen around her muzzle indicating internal injuries, and she seemed to be in pain. The protest group stopped to help the dog, whose name is Rosie.

It is thought that Rosie was hit by a car, and members of the group are trying to raise funds to pay for her care. Rosie is now out of the high kill shelter and is being treated by a veterinarian before the search for a forever home begins.

Up to date information can be found at the Facebook page set up for Rosie here.
