Yards Brewing Company becomes Pennsylvania’s first wind-powered brewery

Share |

Yards Brewing Company recently selected Washington Gas Energy Services to supply 100% CleanSteps WindPower to their brewery, making them the first brewery in Pennsylvania to be 100% wind powered.

Yards owner & founder Tom Kehoe said, “Our green power purchase just makes sense—it fulfills our business philosophy and falls in line with our community efforts to be more environmentally sustainable.”

Yards Brewing Company in Philadelphia, was named the 2010 Green Business of the Year by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and earned the 2009 Penn Future Green Power Turn it On! Award.

By using 100% wind power for the brewery, they are eliminating 52,000 gallons of gasoline used per year. Now, we just have to get more businesses and homes to follow their eco-friendly example!

It’s not as hard as it sounds to convert to wind power—you simply contact WGES to set up your account, which doesn’t involve any wiring or installation, and they notify your electric company of the change. From there, you’ll still receive your normal monthly bill from your electric company, with your WGES charges on it.
