Milk does a body good...or not: Lactose intolerant woman becomes dairy princess

“Milk does a body good” unless, of course, you’re vegan OR a dairy princess in Washington state who’s lactose intolerant.

There’s a certain perverse conundrum in the crowning of 18-year-old Laurel Gordon as Grays Harbor County's dairy ambassador since the teenager drinks soy milk in real life and must take lactase in order to digest dairy products at all.

Still, Gordon’s family has been enslaving…er….milking cows for 150 years on their farm so she “believes in the product.” The young dairy dignitary is competing for the Washington state dairy ambassador title in June. Hey, Laurel…we can recommend some tasty hemp, almond and rice varieties, too.
