Six-year-old cancer survivor Aghelos Kouvaras has a passion for life—and a passion for penguins.
While Kouvaras was undergoing Chemotherapy and in and out of hospitals for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he read about the struggles that penguins are facing for their own survival.
Instead of wishing for material objects or anything for himself, this Long Island boy’s wish was to save penguins.
"What are we going to do without animals?" he asked. "If they die, we will all die."
Last Saturday, the first grader’s family, friends, teachers and community raised $8,977.00 by joining the Wildlife Conservation Society’s third annual Run for the Wild.
"Team Aghelos" had a goal of $3,000.00, not only did they more than double their goal, but Aghelos Kouvaras completed his chemotherapy treatments just weeks ago and was able to participate in the Bronx Zoo’s family fun run/walk. Talk about inspiration!
