Tonight I had the pleasure of being a guest at the world premiere of Forks Over Knives, the life changing and life saving documentary that illustrates the numerous benefits of a whole and plant based diet and was recently featured on the popular television show Dr. Oz. Several notable vegan celebrities, athletes, doctors, and activists made their way to the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, CA and joined the stars of this film to watch this deeply moving, entertaining, and highly educational film.

The red carpet was hosted by Kathy Freston, the author of the popular books, Veganist and the Quantum Wellness series. She recently brought the idea of a vegan lifestyle to the masses by appearing on a teeny tiny show called Oprah. I had the pleasure of speaking with Ms. Freston, and geez, is that woman beautiful! Long and lean and truly glowing, she is a walking example of the benefits of the vegan lifestyle. Also in attendance were Steve O, actresses Marcia Gay Harden and Angela Bassett, vegan MMA fighter Mac Danzig, vegan triathlete Rich Roll, Shaun Monson (producer of Earthlings), Karen Dawn (author of Thanking The Monkey), famous chef Tal Ronen, and many others. I attended the event with my good friend who just so happens to be one of the most recognized vegan bodybuilders in the world, Robert Cheeke. Kathy Freston joked she was disappointed he was wearing a suit and covering his vegan muscles. I'm sure most of the other women there felt the same way! Whole Foods catered the event with some of their most delicious vegan dishes.

The film itself has now made its way to the top on my shortlist of faves, and the energy afterward made it obvious that everyone in attendance felt the same way. Well thought out and exceptionally put together, this is a film that can truly save your life. Starring the highly esteemed physicians Dr. T Colin Campbell, Dr. Terry Mason, Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, with appearances by Dr. Neil Barnard and many other notable educators in the ever growing plant based movement, this film is chalk full of information while still being entertaining.

It's important that EVERYONE see this movie, as we have the power to not only prevent disease, but reverse it. This movie shows you how. The numerous case studies and patients stories were thought provoking and heart touching. It featured interviews with everyone from famous vegan MMA champion Mac Danzig to a young mom who was able to reverse her diabetes, and a woman who was told she has less than a year to live... but is still alive and kicking over 2 decades later. A whole food and plant based diet saved her life and countless others.

The science in this movie is absolutely astonishing. It clearly details and gives hard proof and facts illustrating the onslaught of disease and cancer all over the world with the proliferation of meat and dairy. Being of mixed heritage myself, I love how this film showed case studies from people all over the world and from every walk of life. It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, this diet is a way of life that can get you feeling better than ever before. While medicine today is just about treating the SYMPTOMS with expensive pills, this film teaches us how to treat the DISEASE itself.

Following the film was an informative Q&A panel with the doctors featured in the movie as well as the filmmakers. This was moderated by Kathy Freston. The doctors took time to answer each and every question. The highlights were from the people who walked into the event a carnivore and left a vegan. They were eager to get more tips from the doctors who happily obliged. The doctors also touched upon the dangers of saturated fat and suggestions for replacing olive oil, flax seed oil, etc., with the foods from their original source. That was really eye opening for me as I had just bought flax oil earlier that day! I'm hoping the store I went to takes returns!

It was a great and informative night for all and I'm looking forward to the wide release of the film because I'm eager to spread this information with my friends, family, and loved ones! Check out their website here for more detailed information about the film and to find out when it's coming to your town! And be sure to watch the trailer below!
