Anapka, an elderly donkey whose abuse shocked the world last year, has sadly died of a heart attack.
She was forced to parasail above a beach in Golubitskaya, Southern Russia to advertise a local business; horrified onlookers said that children on the beach were in tears as they heard the donkey bray with fear. Local newspaper Taman reported after the event, “the donkey landed in an atrocious manner; it was dragged several meters along the water, after which the animal was pulled out half-alive to the shore.”
British tabloid newspaper The Sun tracked down Anapka and rescued her from her owner, after which she found her final home in stables near Moscow, managed by Yulia Dobrovolskaya. On her arrival, Anapka was observed to be old but healthy, and very quiet, however soon she began to refuse all food and water. “She got sick in December. She became very weak,” said Dobrovolskaya, a veterinarian by training.
Anapka’s autopsy showed that she died from myocardial infarction, believed by Dobrovolskaya to have been caused by the cruel parasailing stunt.
