Former ‘Lost’ star Jorge Garcia rings in New Year with meatless sloppy joes

The man that made Hurley one of the most lovable characters on ABC’s hit drama Lost and one of our favorite new vegetarians, Jorge Garcia, is apparently sticking with his meatless ways into the beginning of 2011.

Garcia took to his blog Further Dispatches on January 2 to introduce his “new tradition.”

“New Years at our house is usually pretty quiet. Dinner is always Sloppy Joe’s and Tater Tots,” wrote Garcia. “But this past New Year’s Eve night we made two batches of Joe. Because I had mine meatless.”

The 37-year-old actor, who will be starring in JJ Abrams new series Alcatraz, went vegetarian last summer for animal rights reasons.

In an interview this November with TVSquad.com, Garcia acknowledged the health benefits of living sans meat but the true reason for his transition was “about the animals.”
