This week snack giant Frito-Lay announced they are giving some of their offerings a healthy makeover for the New Year. Starting next year they will be eliminating all pesky preservatives from half of their products, including Lay's® potato chips, Tostitos® tortilla chips and SunChips® multigrain snacks.
More than six dozen varieties of snacks will go au naturel, with artificial ingredients, flavors, preservatives and additives such as monosodium glutamate and sodium diacetate saying buh-bye.
Additionally, some flavored products such as barbecue flavored Lay’s Potato Chips will be lower in sodium.
"This is the largest evolution we've ever had in our product line," said Ann Mukherjee, chief marketing officer at Frito-Lay
The change comes as consumers are seeking out more healthful snacking choices. According to the USA Today, the 12.9 billion a year natural food market has grown at a double digit clip for years.
Stalwarts, Doritos and Cheetos, will remain unchanged and will retain their status as artificially enhanced junk food.
