Ellen DeGeneres and Halo donate 1 million meals to shelter animals

Earlier this year, to celebrate the launch of the U.S. Postal Service’s “Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet” social awareness stamp, Ellen DeGeneres and her holistic pet care line, Halo, set a goal of feeding one million shelter dogs and cats by the end of 2010. Halo encouraged pet lovers to participate through contests, Facebook, Twitter, and a partnership with Freekibble.com.

Did they make the goal? You bet! Over 100 shelters throughout the United States benefited from the generous contribution—one million meals—of Halo.

“At Halo we want to promote healthy living for pets and eating good food is a big part of that,” said DeGeneres. “So, we agreed to donate one million meals of Halo to shelter pets. I mean, imagine, an animal in a shelter, in a cage, lonely - a good meal is kinda all they have to look forward to, until you adopt them!”

Founded over 20 years ago, Halo, Purely for Pets contains premium natural ingredients to encourage the overall wellness of our fuzzy companions and is the only pet food honored with the National Canine Cancer Foundation Seal of Excellence. DeGeneres became a part-owner of Halo in 2008 to help give animals “the chance to be the healthiest they can be.” Halo, Purely for Pets collection includes a variety of food products, supplements, and treats for both cats and dogs, as well as a stain and odor remover kit.
