This season of “Dancing with the Stars” has run into controversy as Bristol “the pistol” Palin went farther than anyone expected and now is poised to dance in the finale next week.
Now it seems the popular ABC show may continue to dance with controversy with the inclusion of same-sex couples starting, possibly with Portia de Rossi, next season.
Earlier this month de Rossi told Ryan Seacrest that if she was asked, she would be interested in competing on the show as part of a same-sex couple. Portia and ABC have both denied rumors that a deal is being worked out.
Earlier this month when Kelly Osbourne visited de Rossi's wife Ellen on her daytime talk show, the topic of same-sex couples on DWTS came up, with Osbourne saying the idea was “fabulous," while Ellen thought it was “weird." Ellen later clarified that it was only weird because “we are just so used to seeing a man and woman dancing together." Ellen said she thought ultimately it would be great if a same-sex duo would compete, but added that she was not aware of any plans for Portia to appear on the show.
Israel’s version of DWTS is currently debuting a same-sex couple, with female TV sportscaster Gili Shem dancing with pro Dorit Milman.
Another fan of the idea is Judge Carrie Ann Inaba who said, "I would love it. I fully support that and I think America is ready for that. Our country is much more accepting of same sex couples and it would be great for the show to reflect that."
