'The Featured Creature' showcases mysterious and fascinating animals

If you love all creatures, great and small, strange and weird, cuddly and scary, then the website TheFeaturedCreature.com is for you. The site focuses largely on unknown and extremely fascinating animals that, unbeknownst to most, share our planet with us.

Ever seen a slipper lobster or a pom-pom crab? How about a bilby or a vizcacha? I thought not. The site features a new creature every day to get to know, to scare the dickens out of you or wish you could hug. (Red panda!)

The site was founded by Carly Martinetti, a junior at UCLA, who has had a lifetime fascination with kooky looking critters.

"I wanted to share with my readers the amazing world of the unknown -- creatures that share our planet with us that simply deserve our attention," said Martinetti.

Martinetti dreams of having her own nature program on Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel, where she can showcase the “most bizarre and fascinating animals that roam our planet.”

"I mean honestly, how many shows on the Savannah can you really watch? There are millions of little known species on our little planet, why not get to know the rest of them?" Martinetti said.

I’ll watch, but only if I get to hug a red panda.
