Nissan LEAF hits 20,000 reservation mark three months earlier than expected

The all-electric Nissan LEAF, the vehicle featured in the ultra popular polar bear commercial, reached the 20,000 reservation mark on September 23, surpassing the Franklin, Tennessee-based car maker’s original estimate to achieve the 20,000 reservation tally—the first phase of the LEAF’s rollout— by nearly three months.

Unfortunately if you are interested in purchasing the LEAF, and you did not secure your spot in the first 20,000 reservations, you will have to wait until next year. That is definitely not good news for those who like to be on the cutting edge.
Achieving 20,000 reservations marks the successful completion of the first phase of the Nissan LEAF rollout, which began more than five months ago, and no further reservations will be taken until next year. Nissan now is focusing on providing the best level of customer service and premium ownership experience to those who already have enrolled. A subsequent phase of reservations will begin next year, after current reservations and orders have been processed.
"As of today, 20,000 consumers have spoken, and they are choosing the Nissan LEAF and a zero-emission future," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America. "We, along with our dealers, now look forward to focusing on providing an absolute top-level purchase experience to our first customers, and to help ensure that the transition to gas-free driving is a seamless one.“

Even if you procrastinated and missed out on making a reservation this year, don’t fret. Nissan is also providing consumers a chance to take a spin in the new LEAF during the company’s 23 city “Drive Electric Tour.”
