Miami Dolphins running back and vegetarian Ricky Williams has signed on to endorse SPO Medical Inc.’s new line of healthy living products. The new line of merchandise includes an “innovative” performance monitoring wristband that assists wearers in becoming more aware of their physical activity throughout the day and a “unique” heart-rate monitoring sports watch that utilizes technology previously used exclusively in the medical field.
"The SPO Wellness(TM) line of products is great to use for people of all ages who want to stay as healthy as possible. Obesity has become a leading health issue in the United States and I am pleased to join with SPO and encourage individuals to do what it takes to stay healthy,” explained Williams. “I plan to use both of the products during my workouts to assist me in maximizing my fitness level so that I can stay in the best physical condition possible."
Williams, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, attributes his success to an active and healthy vegetarian lifestyle.
"There are so many things I want to accomplish in this lifetime. In order to accomplish my goals I need a healthy body," said the former Pro Bowl MVP. "A healthy body, mind and spirit are the reasons I've been able to have longevity as a professional football player. My philosophy regarding a healthy lifestyle can and should apply to everyone in our society. When you eat healthy, get adequate exercise and rest you are far more productive."
The 10-year NFL veteran sounds like the perfect choice to endorse health related products, apparently that fact didn’t escape sports and wellness advisory firm Brewer Sports International (BSI).
"Ricky is an ideal role model to help bring awareness to the SPO Wellness(TM) line. Maintaining such a healthy lifestyle has enabled Ricky to have many successes as a professional athlete. His focus and determination on and off the field is perfect for helping make more people knowledgeable of healthy habits," said Jack Brewer, chief executive officer of BSI.
In addition to toting the rock for the Dolphins, Williams is also a certified yoga instructor and massage therapist. His ambitions definitely reach well beyond the sport of football as the 33-year-old San Diego native is working on his pre-med undergrad degree with plans to attend medical school after retirement.
Just more proof that vegetarians rule.
