Verizon launches ‘Great Paper Escape’ sweepstakes to encourage online billing

Verizon has launched a new campaign, the Great Paper Escape sweepstakes, encouraging customers to switch to online billing. The company hopes to motivate a quarter of a million folks to join the 2.4 million who already receive their bills online.

Customers who switch to the much more efficient and environmentally friendly online billing system by Dec. 31 will automatically be entered to win a grand prize of $10,000—a second entry can be had if customers then enroll in Verizon’s automatic payment plan. And for those eco-conscious individuals who are already enrolled in paperless billing and auto pay, no need to fret as Verizon will award you sweepstakes entries as well. Customers also have a chance to play a daily instant-win game to be eligible to win prizes such as reusable tote bags, an energy-efficient washer-dryer combo, $50 Verizon Perks gift cards, and a Trek Eco Urban bicycle.

"Earlier this year Verizon launched a comprehensive sustainability program to help our company and our customers reduce their impact on the environment and to conserve energy," said James Gowen, Verizon chief sustainability officer. "Through the Great Paper Escape sweepstakes we're offering customers an easy and fun way to reduce their carbon footprints while also providing a faster, more secure and clutter-free way to pay their bills."

Verizon states that in 2009, more than 27 million paper bills were replaced by online bills and during the month of June 2010, Verizon customers made more than 8 million electronic bill payments.

Customers can enter the Great Paper Escape sweepstakes and instant win game by visiting greatpaperescape.verizon.com or by logging into their Verizon account at myverizon.com and enrolling in paper-free billing and an automatic bill payment service.
