On Sunday, August 22 Animal Planet will air a two-hour special exploring Africa’s Great Rift Valley—the 4000 mile valley that stretches from the Middle East to Mozambique in southern Africa. Fiery Paradise: Great Valley Rift will showcase some of the most incredible sights in the world from exotic animals to spectacular geographic features.
Known as the 'cradle of humankind,' Africa's Great Rift Valley gave birth to life found nowhere else on Earth. With geographic features as diverse as the spectacular coral reefs on the Red Sea, the majestic snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, the rain-soaked flanks of the Ruwenzoris, and the vast plains of the Serengeti, the Great Rift is home to a multitude of exotic animals.
"Humanity's oldest recollections of the natural world were born in the Great Rift Valley. This is the land where we took our first steps, where we found our place in the animal kingdom," says Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet. "How appropriate to bring these dramatic landscapes and remarkable living creatures to magnificent life on Animal Planet."
Produced for Animal Planet by Mike Gunton, the award-winning producer of Life and executive producer for BBC Worldwide Americas, Fiery Paradise: Great Valley Rift can be seen on Animal Planet on Sunday, August 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
