Kentucky State Fair serves diet destroying Krispy Kreme Donut Cheeseburger

A sandwich first introduced at the ballpark of a St. Louis Cardinal’s minor league affiliate in 2006 is making an appearance at the Kentucky State Fair. The now infamous Krispy Kreme Donut Cheeseburger—not endorsed by Krispy Kreme— is now wreaking culinary havoc in the Blue Grass State and no waistline or blood sugar count is safe from its glazed vengeance.

The Krispy Kreme Donut Cheeseburger is quite self-explanatory. It consists of two glazed donuts, acting as buns, and a burger that is nearly twice the weight of McDonald’s gut buster, the Big Mac. The cheese is actually an option along with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and dignity.

According to an article on the Courier-Journal, the beast of a sandwich contains over 800 calories with half of that count originating from the donuts. The original burger, as reported by CBS in 2006, packed 1,000 calories—most likely the count with bacon. To say that is excessive would be like saying the Gulf oil spill was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

But hey it’s the State Fair and people want to have fun, right? We hear the same of fast food, junk food, fair food… there is always an excuse for Americans to go overboard.

Consider the obesity rate in the State of Kentucky in 2009; it was a ridiculously high 31.5 percent—that’s obesity alone.

The cases of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer continue to sky rocket but apparently having 3 to 5 minutes of “fun” while ingesting a ticking time bomb is more important than living a full healthy life.

In the 2006 CBS article detailing the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger, aptly titled “The Worlds Unhealthiest Burger?”, a diabetic man was interviewed and by his response it is quite clear he falls into the aforementioned group of people more concerned with tantalizing their taste buds than taking care of the only body they will ever have.

...the donut alone has 10 grams of sugar — doesn't seem to faze diabetic diner Floyd Schuetz.

“Oh, I’ll have another one of these,” he says.

Unfortunately that seems to be the meal time mantra for our entire nation.
