Porsche 918 Spyder concept to make debut at Monterey Peninsula Automotive Week

The car that can achieve a 0-60 time in 3.2 seconds while still attaining an impressive 78 miles per gallon is slated to make its North American debut next week. Yes indeed the Porsche 918 Spyder concept is finally here.

The 918 Spyder will be part of what appears to be a green theme for Porsche at the 2010 Monterey Peninsula Automotive Week taking place August 9-15. Along with the fuel efficient 500-horsepower concept, the high performance car maker will also be showing off the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the Cayenne S Hybrid.

"Automotive passion is always alive and thriving within the Porsche community, but it's particularly heated at this extraordinary event," said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. "Where else can you see the evolution of Porsche in America so magnificently displayed, from early sports cars like our 356 through our newest intelligence performance powerhouse, the 918 Spyder?"

And in case you haven’t heard, the 918 has been approved for actual production with over 1000 pre-orders already being submitted.

If you desire owning one of these beauties—who wouldn’t— you might want to consider collecting loose change now. Reports claim that the fuel sipping sports car will set you back a cool $630,000. Sorry kids, no college fund!

Please keep in mind that taking a look at one is definitely much less expensive.

The 918 Spyder will be introduced on Sunday, August 15 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
