When Time Is of The Essence: A guide for vegans on the go

For Militant Vegans

Thank goodness for Amy. She’s even created a 2-week vegan diet plan.

Celentano Eggplant Rollettes are vegan with a nice light flavor and feel. No need to unbutton the pants after this Italian treat.

Kashi Black Bean Mango is vegan. I love a company with a mission (even though a few of their cereals taste like used sandpaper).

Tempeh, quinoa, and black beans in a frozen entrée, say what?! I kid you not. Turn over a New Leaf and stop loathing yourself after lunch.

Hello, Sunshine Burger. You are the essence of simplicity: brown rice, sunflower seeds, carrots, and herbs. A label reader’s dream come true.

I heart John McDougall, MD. Research, writer, cruise ship director, and fearless entrepreneur of the all-vegan food industry.

Olive Valley Falafel Sticks are made with five healthy ingredients and are gluten-free in case you’re “one of those.” Great dipped in this delicious sauce and even better because you can toaster oven rather than zap.

Beans—the fiber…the protein…you impressive little powerhouses you! If the beans are cool, even better. Here’s a quick, cook-free way to add nutrition and complex carbs to your day. (Note: Do not fear the bean. Once they become a regular part of your diet you’ll no longer require Beano.)

Hoo, baby, Blue Horizon spring rolls are as close to real Thai that frozen will ever get. Organic beans, cabbage, lemongrass, and other ingredients you can pronounce. (P.S. Never microwave when you can crisp in a toaster oven.)

All the way from Taiwan, available at Whole Foods, is the Vegetarian Plus line of meatless goods. If you miss meat—I don’t—this one’s for you. The Vegan Black Pepper Steaks are flavor-full and cholesterol-free.

For Those “In Transition”

Dr. Praeger’s frozen foods, “Where you recognize all the ingredients.” This is true, and I’d like to recognize an egg substitute in there soon. Nevertheless, the man made broccoli into pancakes so he deserves some credit.

Quorn. Unfortunately named. Uncommonly good. (Corn? No, Quorn. Corn? No, Quorn.) Not entirely vegan, but not at all chicken.

Morningstar. Rise and shine, deliciousness. Why can’t you be vegan and a little bit healthier? Well, at least you’re not cow parts. And your sizzle in a toaster oven. It’s to die for.
