
Tofu Steaks With Spicy Peanut Crust
This recipe is featured in Jean Pare’s Company’s Coming series.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp cooking oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil (for flavor)
- 1 lb pkg medium tofu, cut crosswise into 8 slices
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
- 1 tbsp sliced green onion
- 1 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp medium unsweetened coconut
- 2 tbsp sliced green onion
- 1 tbsp lime juice
Preheat broiler. In a frying pan, heat cooking and sesame oils on medium-high. Add tofu. Sprinkle with salt. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until starting to brown.
Transfer to greased baking sheet with sides.
In a small bowl, stir together peanut butter, 1 tbsp green onion, chili sauce, and soy sauce until smooth. Spread over tofu. Sprinkle with coconut. Broil on center rack in oven for about 3 minutes until coconut is golden.
Sprinkle with second amount of green onion. Drizzle with lime juice.
Makes 8 servings.
