Verizon’s newest offering, the Samsung Intensity II, features a horizontal slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a music player and every young boy’s dream come true, a 1.3-megapixel infrared camera with night vision. Although the aforementioned technical specs are impressive—especially the part about night vision—the most impressive aspect of the Intensity II has to be its eco-friendly design and packaging.
The battery cover of the Intensity II is constructed from 35-percent post-consumer material, in other words it’s made from recycled water bottles and other polycarbonate materials. Additionally the box that houses this new “green” device is 60-percent recycled paper while the quick reference guide is made up of 20-percent recycled paper.
"We're excited about the Intensity II launch because a major part of Verizon's sustainability strategy is providing products that utilize post-consumer materials," said Jim Gowen, chief sustainability officer for Verizon.
And for those of you who like to drive climate change deniers crazy by pointing out their expansive carbon footprints, the Intensity II also offers an eco-calculator that tracks fuel mileage, fuel efficiency and the estimated amount of carbon dioxide emitted.
The Samsung Intensity II is currently only available online but will be appearing in a Verizon Store near you within the next few weeks.
