What a conundrum, you consider yourself green, eco-friendly and an all around environmental champion but still deep inside the need for speed exists. Yeah that Toyota Prius you tool around town in is swell but when a good old fashioned muscle car pulls up next to your sensible compact that pang of horsepower envy rears its ugly head causing even the most responsible greenie to go into priority meltdown. But before you trade in your MPG king for a gas guzzling hot rod you might want to consider research being performed by one of the world’s most famous sports car manufacturers.
Porsche has announced an effort to ramp up its development of three experimental all-electric drive Boxsters. The three test cars are being driven daily as part of the company’s new initiative called Porsche Intelligent Performance that solidifies the manufacturer’s commitment to combining greater efficiency with the high performance consumers expect.
"We will definitely be offering electric sports cars in the future," said Michael Macht, the President and CEO of Porsche AG. "But such a concept only makes sense if it offers performance and a cruising range comparable to that of a sports car today."
Porsche is definitely not new to the high-performance/efficient sports car game. Recently the 918 Spyder concept was revealed, a sports car capable of achieving 78 MPG while pushing out 600 horsepower. And here I thought my 1985 Camaro was bad ass in high school.
In regards to release dates for the all electric Boxster, there are none, so keep driving that Nissan Leaf or Myers Motors Duo until the future officially arrives.
