The Deep Horizon oil spill—btw thanks again for that BP—has prompted a young man to start a non-profit aimed at raising money to support the animals effected by the disaster.
Matt Pierce of Bradenton, Florida decided to launch “Teenagers Care” after expressing his need for taking action to his father. In a release, the teen who also resides in Stone Harbor, New Jersey during the summer, lamented the Gulf catastrophe and like many of us wonders why it occurred in the first place.
“It should have never happened. It's a shame that the wildlife in the Gulf have to pay the price for BP's carelessness,” said Pierce. "I can't imagine oil on our beaches in Florida and Stone Harbor. When I see what has happened in the Gulf it makes me really wonder what we should be doing to help with our country's energy problem. My generation has now seen the result of what can happen from off-shore drilling and why we need to find alternative energy sources.”
So far “Teenagers Care” has raised almost $5,000 in just two weeks using fundraising methods from lemonade stands to selling pelican t-shirts designed by Pierce himself. The organization’s goal is to collect $100,000 over the next few months.
