Grand prize winner announced in HGTV Green Home Giveaway 2010

After receiving more than 17 million entries, HGTV announced the winner of the Green Home Giveaway 2010. Sandra Gilson of Scotia, N.Y. was “speechless” and “surprised” when HGTV's Jamie Durie revealed that her name was drawn to receive the $800,000 grand prize package consisting of an eco-friendly, single-family home located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, a 2010 GMC Terrain, and $100,000.

“I can't believe this," said an elated Gilson. "Oh, I just don't believe it!"

Located in the Pinehills community, the 2,100 square foot HGTV Green Home features construction and design elements that are known to contribute to an energy-efficient, cleaner and healthier living environment. The home received a GOLD Certification from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The NAHB National Green Building Standard is the first and only American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved green building standard.

"The success of each of our three HGTV Green Home Giveaways shows us that many of our viewers are interested in knowing more about a green lifestyle," said Jim Samples, president, HGTV. "This home, the first in a New England location, provided an excellent opportunity to showcase affordable, accessible and eco-friendly approaches to living."

This year’s Green Home Giveaway is the third installment of HGTV’s annual contest. To see inside the home visit HGTV.com/greenhome.
