Comedian Sarah Silverman calls for Congress to pass Healthy School Meal Act of 2010

Following in the footsteps of Scarlett Johansson and Woody Harrelson, comedian Sarah Silverman is urging Congress to pass H.R. 4870, the Healthy School Meal Act of 2010—a bill which aims to provide school children with healthy lunch options.

In a letter to Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the funny lady writes, “All kids—vegetarian or not—should have healthy options. I think we forget the simple fact that what we put in our bodies directly effects [sic] our bodies. Many kids aren’t able to bring lunches from home—they have to eat what’s in the lunch line. Without healthful options in the cafeteria, we're doing our children and the future of our country a great disservice.”

H.R. 4870 was introduced by Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) and co-sponsored by 65 additional Members of Congress.

To thank Silverman for coming aboard, Congressman Polis sent her a message on Twitter which read, “@SarahKSilvermann Thank you for endorsing my Healthy School Meals Act! Healthier options for kids! Also my partner & I luv yer show xo.”
