Santa Clara County bids adieu to toys included in high calorie meals

The Board of Supervisors in Santa Clara County, Calif. passed a measure Tuesday that will ban the sale of toys and other promotions that are accompanied by high-calorie swill err food such as the world famous McDonald’s Happy Meal.

"This ordinance prevents restaurants from preying on children's 'love of toys' to sell high-calorie, unhealthful food," Supervisor Ken Yeager told the LA Times. "This ordinance breaks the link between unhealthy food and prizes."

According to the LA Times, supporters of the measure included public health administrators, parents and of course doctors. The opposition composed of fast-food franchises, other parents and those who tout a Christmas program that provides toys for underprivileged children through the promotions.

Yes we know the government is overstepping its boundaries once again, hyperbolic terms such as nanny and commie are sure to follow the supervisors that passed this measure. But at last check fast-food chains continue to flourish in our country even though it is general knowledge that the food contained within is absolutely horrible for you and is of low quality as well.

All things being considered maybe our society needs a little supervision because apparently folks in large numbers are unable to make proper decisions on their own.
