ASPCA commits $1M to find homes for New York’s homeless dogs and cats

The NY Daily News is reporting the ASPCA has committed to spend $1 million to help New York City’s overcrowded animal shelters in their efforts to find homes for their cat and dog populations.

"I think this is a terrific example of the kind of partnership between the city and nonprofit organizations so necessary in these challenging times," said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg during a press conference to announce the ASPCA pledge.

The funds will be distributed through the city's nonprofit group Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals and will be used to assist low income pet owners in spaying and neutering their animals along with providing money to transport animals from shelters to animal rescue organizations.
