New York tourism agency launches ‘Greenest New Yorker’ contest

New York State’s tourism promotion agency, I LOVE NEW YORK, has teamed up with EscapeMaker.com in an effort to seek out the “Greenest New Yorker.”

New York state residents can apply for the prestigious title by logging onto the contest website and explain in 250 words or less why they deserve to be named “Greenest New Yorker.” Additionally, applicants “will need to describe how they've contributed to sustainable, eco practices and what they do regularly to maintain a ‘green spirit.’ The winner should illustrate a commitment to and leadership in protecting the environment while utilizing its natural resources.” Submissions must be received no later than midnight on April 8, 2010.

Entries for the "Greenest New Yorker" contest will be judged by a panel of celebrities and influential green New Yorkers including Mario Batali, Josh Dorfman, Peter Facinelli, Robin Wilson, Morris Adjmi.

The Grand Prize winner will be announced on Earth Day, April 22 and will receive a three-day, two-night getaway package for two people to one of New York's Top Ten Green Destinations.
