Ellen DeGeneres unveils commemorative stamps to promote shelter pet awareness

Our favorite vegan comedian Ellen DeGeneres unveiled the Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet commemorative postage stamps on her Wednesday show. The stamps are part of the Stamps to the Rescue promotional campaign, a program that partners DeGeneres, The United States Postal Service, and holistic pet care company Halo in an effort to promote awareness about sheltered pets.

"This is a subject that I am extremely passionate about. By working together, we can find good homes for millions of adoptable, homeless and abandoned pets," said DeGeneres. "And until they get adopted, I'm happy to say that Halo and I are giving one million meals to shelter pets that are waiting for you."

Veteran stamp photographer Sally Andersen-Bruce took the photos of the five cats and five dogs who are featured on the Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet commemorative stamps. All ten animals were adopted from a shelter in New Milford, CT.

Six to eight million cats and dogs enter animal shelters annually and nearly half of those animals are euthanized. To start cutting those numbers down, people are encouraged to adopt animals from shelters when seeking a new companion. Another part of the solution is ensuring that all pets are spayed or neutered.

The Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet stamps can be pre-ordered at usps.com/shop, stampstotherescue.com, or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24 (1-800-782-6724).
