PETA banner urges SeaWorld to release orcas from ‘prison’

If for some reason you had any doubts regarding PETA’s stance on SeaWorld’s whale based entertainment, those uncertainties can now be officially erased.

On Mar. 8, the animal rights organization flew a banner over the aquatic theme park that read “SEAWORLD-LET ORCAS OUT OF PRISON-PETA.” While the banner flew overhead, PETA’s ground game was busy spreading the word to SeaWorld patrons.

The campaign was spurred on by the recent tragedy that took the life of SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau. The forty-year-old trainer drowned when an orca named Tilikum pulled her into the pool after a show.

According to PETA, a psychologist recently revealed that Tilikum’s captivity has caused trauma to the animal that is akin to the human version of post-traumatic stress disorder.

But that revelation won't stop America's number one marine mammal entertainment venue. Fred Jacobs, spokesman for SeaWorld, recently expressed the theme park’s intention to return Tilikum to live show performances.
