After being overwhelmed by the public’s response to a recent TV ad that showed consumers where their bacon really came from, Animals Australia has launched a new radio campaign that highlights the cruelty of factory farming.

The radio commercial begins with a child singing our favorite happy farm song, “Old MacDonald had a farm…” Only this number is followed by revelations as to how pigs and chickens are treated on factory farms.

"Factory farming is inherently cruel,” states Glenys Oogjes, Executive Director of Animals Australia. “There is no excuse for confining animals so that they are barely able to move. There is no excuse for subjecting them to surgical procedures without pain relief, and consumers are never going to accept methods of farming that deny animals all quality of life."

The animal protection organization plans to significantly increase its campaigns against factory farming in 2010. “All animals deserve to be provided with quality of life and protection from cruel treatment, " explains Oogjes.

Animals Australia, which relies solely on public donations, encourages compassionate living through changing daily habits, not supporting factory farming, and shifting to a plant-based diet.

The new radio commercials "Old MacDonald's Myth" can be heard at animalsaustralia.org.
