On the night of Jan. 29, Fran and David Hoyt’s Nigerian dwarf goat named Andy went missing. To the couple’s horror, on Feb. 3 Andy’s severed head was discovered next to their house.
"I just think whoever did it is a sick individual and if they do it to a goat or animal they'll do it to a person," Fran told WTKR News Channel 3.
Police have no suspects in the case. To assist in finding the disturbed person, PETA has offered the $2,500 reward.
"Animal abusers are cowards," says PETA Director Martin Mersereau. "They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them. Area residents have good reason to be concerned. According to law enforcement agencies and leading mental health professionals, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to all animals--including humans."
Anyone with information should contact the Chesapeake Police Department at 757-382-6161 or Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).
