When it appears we are finally making headway toward a healthier more compassionate society the organizers of “Meat Week” attempt to reverse this progression in one eight night period of carnivorous gluttony.

“Meat Week” is the brain child (term used loosely) of two coworkers from Tallahassee, Florida who conceived of the event that entails eight straight days of eating smoked meat.

The artery hardening happening now takes place in 16 cities and draws as many as 70 meat gorging patrons per night.

It is claimed that many participants are vegetarians but after spending more than one week splurging on headcheese and pigs feet it would be difficult to still classify one as a plant eater. In simpler terms…you are not a vegetarian if you partake in “Meat Week.”

The organizer of the New York Chapter of “Meat Week,” Derek Anderson, recognizes the folly of the event telling CBS, “We know it’s stupid.”

I couldn’t agree more Mr. Anderson.
