Kellie Pickler credits vegetarian diet for increased energy

Kellie Pickler is featured in the "Healthy Hollywood" section of this month’s issue of Shape magazine. The country music star shares her thoughts on reading, hanging out with happy people, and being a vegetarian.

“About a year and a half ago, I cleaned up my diet, becoming a vegetarian and replacing the junk I was eating with whole foods, like raw veggies, nuts, and edamame,” Pickler says. “My energy shot way up! When I’m away from home, I stop by a grocery store to stock up on healthy snacks instead of hitting a drive-through.”

In 2008 Pickler stopped eating meat to improve her health but after finding animal cruelty videos online, her reasoning changed. She told People magazine, "One night I couldn't sleep and I was up just Googling random stuff and I'm like, 'Hmmm, PETA.' I saw all the videos and I just thought it was horrible. It's animal cruelty. A lot of it has to do with knowing what happens to the animals and it really bothered me and so I will not eat meat."

Next month Pickler hits the road for the second leg of her tour with Taylor Swift.
