In a dramatic rescue show live on television, firefighter Joe St. Georges is lowered from a helicopter to the rushing waters of the Los Angeles River to save a dog. The courageous firefighter was bit multiple times as he attempted to harness the terrified animal. When the pup was secured, the two were lifted to safety.

KTLA reports that St. Georges was taken to County USC Medical Center to receive treatment for the bite wounds he received on his hands and arms. The dog was transferred by ambulance for veterinary care and is doing well.
